Showtime at Lake Greenwood……..
It was a pleasure to share time together at Lake Greenwood on May 16 and 17. Our sincere thank you to Art Swanson as the host of the Show, and for all his organizing efforts and advanced planning! We had several early arrivals on Thursday and then donuts to greet those arriving on Friday from Shipley’s. Donuts made their return on Saturday morning as well.
We had 20 boats joining overall, and a strong attendance from guests who came to see the variety of models, engines, styles and years. In many cases they shared about their current projects, along with others who were taking a trip down memory lane. One gentleman came with his daughter on Friday and returned on Saturday. He was reminiscing back over the years at his age of 91!
Signage that we used in the past has returned after being cleaned and sorted. These directionals and our larger folding sign welcomed everyone. The new docks at Break on the Lake are a great improvement, and we filled one of the two dock segments with our boats.
The BOTL team was very accommodating and set aside tables for 30 of us for dinner on Friday evening. Our Show Day started with a Blessing of the Boats, and then we prepared for our Morning Cruise. Our cruise leader, Craig McMullin set a great example for all of us as his starter gave up the ghost. He was patient and methodical and had several sets of hands assisting him. Unfortunately, we could not go in the morning, but we were able to have him guide the afternoon cruise riding in another boat!
The recent severe weather and heavy rains created a silt condition in the water, but we worked around this. Two rivers feed into Lake Greenwood and the runoff was continuing to move down the lake. We dodged virtually all the rain on Saturday and mainly contended with the winds as the weather stayed north as it passed by.
Theresa McMullin and Sherry Wheeler passed out ballots for People’s Choice and cheerfully greeted the many people attending. As the Show closed, the cross winds picked up at the ramp…….and made for a team effort of helping each other take the boats out. We gathered at the Main Event in Greenwood for our dinner and enjoyed each other’s company. Art presented the Light House Award that he received previously from Craig Miller to Theresa McMullin for her efforts with developing Ladies activities during the shows and always being ready to assist. Steve Dewire received the People’s Choice Award for their 1966 Century Arabian. Lastly, if we can return to Lake Lure in spring of 2026, we will schedule lake Greenwood for the fall of next year!
Our sincere thank you to everyone who attended. If was great to be with you!
