Wonderful news to share on Lake Lure’s reopening………..
On May 15th it was my privilege to represent our Chapter at the Town of Lake Lure’s Ceremony announcing the reopening of the Lake on Saturday May 16th. Held at the beautifully restored Morse Park, this special occasion featured:
Lake Lure Mayor Carol Pritchett
Colonel Brad Morgan of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein
Pastor Kevin Anderson from Fairfield Mountains Chapel
Attended by citizens, Town leadership and State officials, this Ceremony was a special time to look back over all that has been accomplished.
It is inspirational to see the hard work, generosity and commitment of so many local, regional, state, and national organizations and resources. We shared this support listing as a Chapter Update from the Commemoration Ceremony Program on September 27, 2025 at the one-year mark from Helene.
The recovery has been a lasting example of dedication, focus and sensitivity amidst the exceptional number of decisions and choices that have had to be made.
The feelings and thoughts of the Mayor, Colonel Morgan and Governor Stein were heartfelt and beautifully expressed for all that has been accomplished through this journey.
Mayor Pritchett received sincere recognition from the Town Staff for her leadership and support throughout that recovery efforts.
It was also announced that there will be a Lake Reopening Celebration on Saturday May 23 over the Memorial Day Weekend.
Tickets for the Celebration are available at: townoflakelure.com
The festivities begin at 6pm, with swimming concluding at 8pm followed by fireworks! With all the plans, this will be a very special moment.
Separately, I have included Lake Lure photos showing the panoramic change in the lower channel of the river, and it is very impressive to see in person. The Lake is back at full pool and looks beautiful! The day was even more stunning in the bright sunlight and clear skies. I hope that you will enjoy the images. The wide-open sandy areas that used to be green grass fields along the river channel are part of the Town planning as they look to the future.
The launch ramp that we all have used previously is open. This area is still under construction with the new Marina and associated services, but the ramp can be accessed with care.
The pier and fingers for the show dock will be towed into place and reset as a part of the construction process above.
See photos below.

BRC – Show Updates
We have also been working on the Show dates for our return to Lake Lure this fall, and these are now set for October 1-3. We will follow our traditional schedule of early arrivals on Thursday, cruises and additional arrivals on Friday, and our Show on Saturday. The Inn will be open for accommodations.
Additionally for Lake Lure, we have a special opportunity to participate in a gathering of our boats that can come early on Wednesday September 30th. We will position in the water adjacent to Morse Park and then cruise with other resident boats to the dam as the Town celebrates the 100th anniversary of the lake impoundment on September 30, 1926. Many more details will be shared on these events soon.
The early October Lake Lure dates will also give a balance in time for those who would like to attend the Georgetown Boat Show on October 16-17. Last year, we had three of our members receive awards at the Show. The Concours d’Elegance will follow at Hilton Head 10/29 – 11/1.
We have other event opportunities in September for the Smith Mountain Lake Show, the 100th Anniversary of Century Boats in Manistee MI, and the ACBS International Show in Port Huron MI. All of these occur at generally same time mid-month, but it gives more choices for those who are interested.
We are also looking at a possible Rendezvous gathering in the summer. More information will be forthcoming if this materializes.
My thank you to everyone, and my best wishes to you, Steve
