ACBS Vintage Boating Day on Lake Greenwood, SC
On Saturday, August 20, 2022 two members of the Blue Ridge Chapter ran their wooden boats on Lake Greenwood. It was a beautiful overcast day with mild temperatures in the morning and sun in the afternoon.
Craig McMullin, his wife Theresa, and fellow member Art Swanson, launched their boats at the Greenwood State Park at 9:30 a.m. We cruised up the lake, checking out coves on both sides of the lake and even entered “Hidden Lake” by going under a railroad trestle then through a very small canal. This revealed a whole other lake filled with beautiful homes and a few more coves to explore.
Craig and Theresa’s boat, a 1957 Chris Craft Sea Skiff (Nauti Buoy) and Art’s 1959 Carter Craft (Teacher’s Pet) ran perfectly. After leaving “Hidden Lake” we cruised north again under another train bridge and Route 72 vehicle bridge docking at a favorite restaurant, “Break on the Lake.” Lunch was great as usual which included a toast! A possible Chapter Annual Meeting is being planned there for 2023 for all to enjoy the lake and restaurant.
After lunch, we headed back south, stopping by Art’s friend’s house for a quick hello and then continuing down to the south end of the lake to view Art’s progress on his house addition. Back at Greenwood State Park, we pulled the boats out of the water about 2:15 p.m. after traveling approximately 35 miles on the lake. It was a great day having the wooden boats on beautiful Lake Greenwood on ACBS 2022 Vintage Boating Day. We hope to be joined by more members next year for the 2023 event.
