Blue Ridge Chapter
One of my favorites saying from MASH. For us lucky few who live in the South, Spring comes in March or at least should. The good news with all the rain we have been having last month, our lakes are full and ready for Spring boating. We have four events coming up in quick succession. In March is City of Lavonia Boat show, Sunnyland’s, Tavares, FL. April is the Hartwell Lake runs and in May is Lake Lure. Please mark your calendars and join us if you can.
March 16th has the City of Lavonia Boat and Art Fair on Saturday in their town square. This is the fifth year for this event which has grown larger each year. Those who participated last year had a good time. The show is a trailer show, so no need to worry about if your engine will start. Worry after the show so the engine is ready for Tavares, Hartwell, and Lake Lure.
The Sunnyland chapter’s Lake Dora show begins Friday March 21 and runs till noon on Sunday 23. If you have not registered, you need to do so shortly. There is still time to sign us for the Pre or Post Show St. John’s Cruise. Let John Heiderich, just2more@aol.com know of you are coming down.
Registrations for the Hartwell Antique Boat Festival April 18-20 are open early April. The committee has been working hard to make this another great event. For early arrivals we will have a Mexican dinner Thursday evening. On Friday and Saturday, we will tour the lake going to a different restaurant each day for lunch. Group Dinner for Friday night. Currently dinner Saturday night is on your own, and no activities are planned for Sunday.
The last of our upcoming events for the Spring is the Lake Lure Classic Boat and Car show on May 17-18. The registrations form will be on our web site in early March. Since Lake Lure is a private lake, they require you to send in your insurance declaration showing that you have a min. of $300,000 liability coverage. Friday cruise the lake on your own and plan on being back to the show area by 6 pm for a great beach dinner and music. The Blue Ridge Chapter will present a couple of awards at the Friday night dinner so plan on attending. Remember when you are making your reservations at the Lake Lure Inn and Spa to tell them you are coming for the boat show, so you receive a discount on your room. We currently have 23 rooms reserved and 15 remaining in the block of rooms the Hotel has for us. A few of us are planning to arrive on Thursday afternoon to help with the docking on Friday. Why not plan a long weekend and join us?
