This show was outstanding as they celebrated their 31 st year. Along with showcasing 43 antique and classic boats, cars were also featured. The fundraising goes to local charities and the attendance was strong once again. The Amphicar was a big hit and gave many rides to the delight of everyone.
Growing up in Lynchburg VA, we spent many days with friends who had a home on the lake. Now many years later……I still remember the fun times…….
Reading in Classic Boating Magazine, the Smith Mountain Project is operated by Appalachian Power and was built on the Roanoke River in the mid-1960s. There are two dams and reservoirs (Smith Mountain and Leesville) that have added 600 miles of shoreline and 24,000 surface acres of water for all to enjoy. As with many projects in this region, electricity service is generated, and the recreational and tourism opportunities are very diverse as you can imagine.
Randy Cunningham and his son, Art Hampton, Craig and Theresa McMullin and others attended and enjoyed the show. Craig and Theresa won an award for the Best Chris Craft that was presented at the Banquet for Resa Ann. Bob and Stephanie Laubrick won the People’s Choice award with their outstanding 1957 Century Coronado – Timeless.
There were so many wonderful boats and I hope that you will enjoy the photos!
Seeing that we are now in mid-winter, looking back helps us look forward to the new boating season to come!
My best to everyone!
