……..and a special moment in time!
HHI Concours – 2024
While at the Hilton Head Island Concours, we spoke with many visitors and enthusiasts for antique and classic boating. It’s always enjoyable to explain, listen and share about our boats and then direct them to our other members as well.
Sunday afternoon I had a special experience when a young gentleman came by to talk……he was accompanied by his new bride. I was starting to explain about our model, and he said that he actually knew it well……
Quietly but intently, he shared that last year he visited our 2023 Life On The Water exhibit with his father-in-law……..as they stood by our boat he asked for his daughter’s hand in marriage. The answer was a heartfelt yes and they were married just two weeks earlier than this year’s Concours.
After returning from their honeymoon on the island of St. Maarten, he wanted to come over to the show and see if our boat was here once again. He was delighted to see that it was, and to show his new bride where their journey together started.
I was very taken back, and grateful to him for sharing this special story. I asked if I could take their photo and would then send it to them. He also works in Hospitality, and we had a common thread to share career wise.
I wrote to them with gratitude, congratulations and best wishes for their future. Honestly it was a tearful moment. I know that many of us have experienced these same moments for similar or different reasons.
He kindly replied with his sincere thank you, and that he had shared the photos with his father-in-law who was extremely happy. He concluded and emphasized that they were all very happy, and looking forward to their life to come.
Moments in time……all the more special when we never see them coming……..
