A wonderful Concours experience!
Overall great weather and our new setting on the Show Field combined for a special Life on the Water exhibition this year! Our Chapter featured 18 boats with a nice variety for the show attendees to enjoy. Huntley Tarleton did an excellent job of positioning us in a new location that was adjacent to the dining tent and sponsors on each side. This area is flat with a gentle rise at the front of our display. Using poles behind us to line up, Huntley directed our movement into position in a staggered formation. Gary Fesperman took on the role of “chief parking valet” with his truck. Based on the set up, boats arriving later could pull into their positions smoothly. Roger Baily took the honor of being placed in the center, and the balance worked well. Huntley shared a great drone photo so that you have a sense of our placement.
For those arriving on Thursday, we enjoyed our traditional dinner at Hudson’s with a great server who was fun to be with. Friday, we awaited additional arrivals and helped get them into their positions. John and Stephanie were attending their ACBS Meetings and joined later in the afternoon. We sincerely appreciated Stephanie’s invitation to have dinner with the Board members, and it was a pleasant evening for everyone to be on the porch and patio of the restaurant.
This year’s show was very enjoyable with all the cars on Saturday, and then with the Concours automobiles on Sunday. As always, the various display groupings were very well arranged. The Rolls Royce display was exceptional. I sincerely hope you will like all the photos shared on the links. As last year, one is for Watercraft, and another for Automobiles.
In addition, this year I added a link for Motorcycles as there were 2 displays in different areas. For the second motorcycle display, I took photos of each placard and then followed with the motorcycle image. This display has several very old bikes that have crossed the country on the Cannonball Run.
There are also interesting antique or classic motorcycles that are included. You can zoom in on the placards to see the history.
Randy Cunningham received a special opportunity to be interviewed by Dennis Gage for his television show My Classic Car. Dennis remembered Randy’s Glastron/Carlson Simitar from 2 years ago and the unique style and design had stayed with him. We don’t know when his feature will appear, but we will keep you posted.
We had many visitors coming through our exhibit throughout the weekend and all our boats showed well! Our departures were staggered between Sunday after 4pm and then Monday morning.
Our sincere thank you to Huntley and Angie once again for their efforts on our behalf, and I am very grateful for all our show participants this year!
A note that you will see photos of a plane fuselage……a moment to explain……this was Elvis’s original jet that was deteriorating after changing hands several different times. Recently, two gentlemen bought the plane, cut it down in size, and mounted it on a Freightliner truck/motorhome frame . They are now starting to tour the country. They drive it from the cockpit, and it’s legal to have on the road. This was only their first or second time out, but they have bookings coming in steadily. The interior is unchanged and captures a moment in time. The line to see it was the same throughout the day. You can also imagine the interest and attention they receive cruising down the highways.
My best to everyone for the upcoming Holiday Season and New Year to follow!
Sincerely, Steve
