Update on the 2022 Boating Season!

I wanted to update everyone on the 2022 BRC Boating season. We started the year with the Greenville show, Hartwell Rendezvous, Lake Lure show and Lake Lanier Poker Run. The second half we have the International Boat show in Burlington, VT, Lake Sinclair Show, Annual Meeting on Lake Burton and Hilton Head Concours. https://blueridgechapter-acbs.
We are quickly approaching the BRC Annual meeting October 15th on Lake Burton. In preparation for the meeting, please start thinking about nominations for various committees: President, VP, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chair and State Directors. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of our club. As BRC President the last three years we’ve accomplished many things we will highlight at the Annual Meeting and appreciate all the support.
One of the things I appreciate about the BRC chapter is the way we all help each other with advise and projects. Twelve years ago I called the president at the time Tom asking about wooden boats. Not only did he help me find a boat, he gave me several members names to contact to get started with things like inspection, repair facilities etc…
Now that our kids are grown we turn our attention to our grandchildren and getting them interested in old boats. Talking to another member John H about looking for a small boat earlier this year, he called me in July and said “I have two small boats if you want to take a look”. I said I’ll be there Monday and the process started over again… Knowing nothing about old outboards and trolling motors. I called our friend Scott Turner and asked him a bunch of questions and appreciate his patience with wiring and batteries. (one boat was fitted with a trolling motor) This is also my first outboard motor (the 2nd boat) and other than pull the cord, I had no clue how to start or maintain.

Luckily we have another member Art who is an outboard expert. He gave me a shopping list and said drive over to Lake Greenwood and I’ll get you going. (Two spark plugs, a new Impeller, new pull cord, grease, lower unit oil, gaskets, fuel filter). I woke up early, drove three hours and by lunch we had completed all the repairs and ready for a test ride. Again, without folks to call this would have been a much longer process. This example above is where I’d like to focus… connecting new and old members where possible to pass on our passion for boats.
I hope this encourages someone to want to volunteer, get their boat out for a ride or start that new project!
